All other things being equal, I'd love to be closer to a community of potters. I'd probably choose to be closed on Monday and Tuesday, because weekends are tourism days. I suppose many are closed on Sundays for religious reasons, but I say Tuesday works just as well!

One thing we have going for us here in Tionesta is we came to the area with a thriving online business and several wholesale accounts. Those are what pays the bills, local sales help, but are really a small part of our overall business. I think we could do much better locally if we could get all the local businesses to work together and maintain certain guidelines for operating. If we are all on the same page it makes it easier to promote the whole area as a destination.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09173814009646107190noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2169170980822279464.post-73116056262793667972015-05-08T13:05:36.523-04:002015-05-08T13:05:36.523-04:00You bring up so many excellent points! Many people travel to the area and are disappointed to find so few places open on Sunday. We finally got a grocery store in town and even they are closed on Sunday! Unfortunately many of the businesses here are resistant to keep up with changing lifestyles. In the end, I think it has hurt the area economically. I've recently attended a couple of workshops given by our local CVB (convention and visitors bureau). The theme of the workshops is for businesses to be aware of the local attractions- trails, ancient Indian earthworks, festivals, and to communicate this information to customers. The idea is to keep them interested in coming back to the area.

I grew up in New Castle, PA and when I was little my parents brought my family to Cook's forest about once every summer. I believe it's near your town. I loved it! I always thought it was a magical place. We moved our home & studio in a school bus and Sheetz was a common pit stop... big enough parking lot to maneuver a bus, clean bathrooms, hot food, and coffee to get us through the long night's drive. We have a bathroom in our studio/gallery and we never say no when people ask... MARKETING FAIL.
More than half of my online sales are to other potters, not only because other potters like pots, but because that's who even knows I exist!
With this in mind, I started writing another blog, a Maine lifestyle blog, but find that I don't have as much time (or money) to do Maine-lifestyle things to write about as I would need to do it well.
